The Changing of Seasons

Welcoming Fall!

Oftentimes, it can be tricky to navigate the Internet and find recipes that are both yummy and inclusive. Recipes with certain buzzwords to describe food can be harmful, for example “healthy”, “clean”, and “slimming”, because these terms imply that certain foods are “good” and other foods are “bad”… and we know that food has no inherent “goodness” nor “badness”!

Another aspect about cooking and including all foods comes from using seasonal foods. For example, making pumpkin and squash dishes towards the middle of the fall season is perfect for staying warm on colder evenings and for prioritizing the produce that is available! Moving forward, we will share seasonal recipes that are both yummy and inclusive for all to enjoy!

For this month’s newsletter, it is the perfect time for harvesting tomatoes… so please take a look at the recipe included below for a wonderful tomato salsa! This dish is perfect for an afternoon snack, family friendly appetizer, or maybe even a late night by the fire on the weekend! We hope you enjoy the delight of both preparing and eating this yummy salsa!

Yoga Posture Demonstration: Chest Opener

What is a “chest opener”? In terms of yoga, a chest opener is essentially any posture which includes a backbend or a stretch of the chest. The main purpose of any chest opening posture is to lengthen the muscles of the chest, torso, and front of the shoulders. The key to most chest opening postures is to fire up the muscles on the backside and release the muscles on the frontside (lengthening); by using the muscles along the spine to release all of the muscles aligning the abdominal wall, tension in the chest cavity can escape and create space for a larger range of motion!! Especially in our fairly sedentary society (working a desk job, driving hunched over in our cars, leaning over to look at our phones/tablets), access tension and muscle strain along the entire front side of our chest and torso can be dangerous if built up over time.

Check out the video below for a quick chest opener demonstration you can incorporate in your daily life to release some of this tension on your front side and get back to living a comfortable life with a more balanced front and back body!

Sustainable Retreats: Ecofriendly Airbnbs

As summer is ending, weekend getaways in the fall are wonderful ways to rest and decompress with family and friends… or just to treat yourself with a short solo trip! Traveling and coordinating places to stay can be a hassle - especially when trying to find rentals properties and/or hotels equipped with safe cleaning products and pledged to protect both the guests and the environment!

SustainableLife.Live has recently added two beautiful rental properties to our website for your visiting pleasure! Both the Lake Geneva, Wisconsin property and the Frisco, Colorado property are two wonderful and comfortable spaces for all guests to enjoy! Please feel free to explore their Airbnb links below for more details — but it should be noted that both residences exclusively use safe and ecofriendly cleaning products, are furnished with up-cycled furniture to be mindful of manufacturing waste, and are centrally located for all guests to walk or bike to local outdoor activities (examples include skiing, hiking, and swimming).

We understand the need to rest and decompress every once and awhile, but intentionally choosing a space where you can be certain of the safety of you and your fellow guests is key if all are to have a great time!

Till next month… soak up the last rays of summer sunshine!

Be well and stay well.
