Moving in Autumn

Household Cleaners: Toxic vs. Safe

Preparing the house for fall can be a tricky task! There is the seasonal clothing and shoe swap, the decorating to create welcoming spaces, and the general sanitization of surfaces to keep away the influx of germs. But have you ever considered cleaning your home to be dangerous?!

There was a 20-year independent study conducted on national brand home cleaners that found the chemicals used in said cleaners damaged users’ lung capacity similar to that of the damage found in people who smoke a pack of cigarettes a day for 20 years. Additionally, some of the participants in the study only used their cleaners as little as once a week and still developed serious lung damage over the course of the study. We have included some fast facts on the study below, as well as a link to the Melaleuca website with more information and the flip book link that contains the original study document.

Well then… What is a Safe, Home Cleaner?

Now that we have shared some of the dangers of national brand home cleaners, check out the products below for our recommendations on safe household cleaners. All of these cleaners are non-toxic, sustainably sourced, and reasonably priced for the amount of product you receive! The shopping link is also included below for your convenience. Continuing on with our seasonal recipes, this month’s delicious recipe is a classic fall meal: autumn squash soup! You may have enjoyed this soup at Panera, but have you ever tried making it at home with family and/or friends?!

Again, our in providing seasonal recipes is to highlight all of the wonderful produce that’s readily available during their specific season. Fall is incredible for harvesting pumpkins, squash, apples, sweet potatoes, and other root vegetables, so please stay tuned in the months to come for more yummy and inclusive recipes!

The autumn squash soup recipe linked below is a perfect way to stay warm as the nights get cooler. We are also continuing to be intentional with the language that we use around describing foods; recipes that include derogatory words/phrases to label certain foods as “fattening” or “bad”, for example, assign a moral quality to food, and that is not something we are trying to promote. Additionally, we are steering away from recipes that include the words “healthy” or “slimming” - both of which can be triggering and don’t actually provide helpful, nutritional information.

We hope you enjoy this month’s recipe!

Athletes and Nutrition

Fall is an incredibly busy time of year for many athletes. Whether you are a cross country runner training for your next race or a football player gearing up for the big game on Friday, all athletes need to pay close attention to how they are fueling their body. It is also important to note that the term “athlete” is extremely versatile; anyone who engages in movement to enjoy the thrill of strengthening and challenging their body is an athlete.

Especially as the weather starts to change, fueling the body is essential to keeping warm and replenishing after workouts. Linked below is a presentation that describes the different roles food can play in one’s life, explains the variety of nutrition necessary for a balanced diet, and shares sample meal ideas for athletes on the go that are both filling and sustainable. Again, this presentation is for anyone who enjoys movement and is looking for a little more insight on how food plays a role in their athletic growth!

Enjoy the image preview and click the link below to our Presentation Archive where this presentation is listed first!

Thank you all so much for taking the time to read through and engage with our content from this month. Until next time, take care and be well.
