Mental WELLness and Athletes - Lets Define What is Mental WELLness

Athletes and mental WELLness is a hot topic for good reason. We want our athletes to FLOURISH, both on and off the athletic fields/courts/tracks/courses.

What is mental WELLness?

Mental wellness is a broad term that covers all aspects of our overall POSITIVE FUNCTIONING, where Mental Health pertains mostly to our brain’s health and emotional stability. Understanding and implementing Mental WELLness techniques and habits can improve Mental Health if PRACTICED on a consistent basis (this does not replace therapy from a qualified professional if needed).

What can you do as an athlete?

  • Implement breath work, meditation, yoga, grounding- to relax, reduce stress, and decrease physical symptoms (headaches, GI issues, and improve athletic performance).

  • Practice DIGITAL hygiene to FLOURISH in our high tech world.

  • Improve SLEEP hygiene through sustainable habits.

  • Find ways to learn and be creative outside athletics and school.

  • Spend time in nature.

  • Practice SOCIAL WELLbeing through connection with friends, family, and community.

  • Look after your physical health through sound NUTRITION, HYDRATION, REST and SLEEP habits.

Throughout our ATHLETES and Mental WELLness series, we will dive into each of these areas more thoroughly.
